Postage Stamp Under Paint

POSTAGE STAMP UNDER PAINT

ABOUT THE OBJECT

Craigie Aitchison painted this luminous still life during his second year at the Slade in 1952. It is believed that, as a joke, he hid a postage stamp under the paint.

UCL students have desperately searched for the stamp ever since, to no avail.

Craigie Aitchison offers no comment.

As seen on this Guardian quiz here (you’ll get one answer right, at least!).
